THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS TO HEADLINE UK MUSIC FESTIVAL

Music event news: Thirty Seconds To Mars to headline This Is Tomorrow festival , 2018

This Is Tomorrow organisers confirm US mega-stars and multi-platinum album-selling band Thirty Seconds To Mars will headline their exciting new major outdoor festival, at Spillers Wharf, Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Saturday 26th May.

The band have announced they will be heading to the North East, to headline day two of the event, which takes place on spring bank holiday weekend.

The festival date comes towards the end of the current leg of a huge European tour for Thirty Seconds To Mars – The Monolith Tour - which has already seen the band on the road throughout March and continues this month and into May.

Festival promoter SSD Concerts’ Steve Davis, said: “We are over the moon to bring an international band of this stature to Newcastle.
“The last time they visited our region was in 2013 and we know fans of Thirty Seconds to Mars will be delighted they'll get the chance to see them on their doorstep once more.”

This Is Tomorrow festival has taken inspiration for its name from the vision of the once Newcastle-based 'Father of Pop Art' Richard Hamilton and his legendary exhibition of the same title – thus firmly planting its roots in the region; and is on course to deliver something truly experimental and forward-thinking this summer.
Taking place next to Spillers on Newcastle's Quayside on May 25th, 26th and 27th, the festival will open on the Friday with a headlining performance from Brit Award winners Catfish and the Bottlemen, before Thirty Seconds To Mars take the helm on the Saturday.

Steve added: “The whole ethos of This is Tomorrow was to bring bands exactly like this one (Thirty Seconds To Mars) to the North East and they're an amazing addition to the festival's headlining bill .  May can't come quick enough!
“This will be an unmissable event for music fans, and more incredible heavyweight acts will be announced soon.”

Thirty Seconds to Mars has sold over 15 million albums worldwide and regularly sell out arenas and stadiums on a global scale. They have received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career, including a dozen MTV Awards, a Billboard Music Award and a Guinness World Record for the Longest Running Tour in history.

On July 4th 2017, the band shot a documentary titled A Day in the Life of America, including over 90 crews in all 50 states (plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico) capturing American life in a single day, and was received with global acclaim.

Having been hailed as one of the most exciting live acts in the world, Thirty Seconds To Mars reflected this accolade in their debut live performance of ‘Walk on Water, the first single from the band's then forthcoming 5th studio album (‘America’ – released today) in a groundbreaking appearance at the MTV VMA awards  , with special guest Travis Scott, shown via innovative infrared technology.

In November 2017, the band continued their hugely successful year and won in the Best Alternative category for the MTV European Music Awards.
In 2018, Thirty Seconds To Mars have kept up momentum, by recently embarking on a live European tour and releasing further hotly-anticipated new music singles, including ‘One Track Mind’ that came out last month. The track, also on today’s album release ‘America’, features prominent rap artist A$AP Rocky and showcases the band's progression into an electro-rock sound.

‘America’, the brand new album from Thirty Seconds to Mars is out now, April 6th, via Interscope Records.

“Do you believe that you can walk on water?” is the anthemic rhetoric in 30 Seconds To Mars’ welcome first new single (Walk On Water)– the long-awaited taste of the band’s upcoming new album, (due for release on April 6th), -that after 4 years since their last studio release,  every fan is now aching to hear.
In support of the impending collection, Jared Leto et al have embarked on a string of highly anticipated Spring/Summer European & U.S. dates, hitting the UK shores by the end of this week.

In a bid to abate the insatiable thirst for these shows, thoughts turn to what treasured gems might make the cut into the mix onstage; but in the current absence of album five -and an eclectically styled, cherished back-catalogue, spanning fifteen years - wistful ideas of already-established numbers in a decadent dream setlist are afoot.
What will make the grade?  Full pelt older more rocky or ‘Emo’ numbers – the latter, if given an outing, often only acoustically?  Rarities that miss the light of day?  Perhaps an ‘outside the box’ cover of a Beatles classic? or, even for those stalwart old skool fans of Jared aka ’ Jordan Catalano’ -the character portrayed by Leto in the 90’s teen drama ‘My  So-Called Life- (this writer included) may we dare to wish to be serenaded the show’s brief yet compelling pseudo-love song, ‘Red’?
Aside from playing all albums back-to-back, here is a suggested an extended dream setlist to delight and entertain -who knows where this party could lead us? :

A Beautiful Lie
The Fantasy
City Of Angels
100 Suns
